                               RESOLUTION NO. 20659
                  
                  
                   A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SUBMIT
                   A JOINT APPLICATION WITH HAMILTON COUNTY FOR
                   INTERMODAL SURFACE TRANSPORTATION EFFICIENCY
                   ACT (ISTEA) ENHANCEMENT FUNDING FOR THE
                   SOUTH SIDE GATEWAY PROJECT.
                  
                  
                                                    
                  
                  
       	    	 WHEREAS, the South Side Gateway Project will
       rehabilitate portions of South Chattanooga that are economically
       depressed; and,
       	    	 WHEREAS, the entire development of the South Side is of
       great economic benefit to the entire community; and,
       	    	 WHEREAS, certain improvements such as the Main Street
       Pedestrian Plaza and Eco-Parking Forest, other parking and
       billboard removal will benefit the entire Gateway Project; and,
       	    	 WHEREAS, funding for such improvements is available
       through the Tennessee Department of Transportation from Federal
       ISTEA funds requiring a 20% local match;
       	    	 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
       THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, That the Mayor be and is
       hereby authorized to submit a joint application with Hamilton
       County for $3,500,000 in ISTEA Funds for the South Side Gateway
       Project (Main Street Pedestrian Plaza, Eco-Parking Forest and
       other necessary parking); and,

       	    	 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City's share of
       matching funds in the amount of $437,500 is hereby assured as a
       sign of the City of Chattanooga's support and commitment to this
       Project.
